Youngest starting 11 at WC with 1 player having WC experience struggling to close out a win or go home match? Stunned…
They shifted to back 5 and chose to defend final 15+. It was pretty much all USA before that imo. I don’t like that tbh, but they did a decent job of pressing a little at the end so it wasn’t all 11 sitting back.
Also, expected a drop off after Pulisic went out and Weston early in the 2nd. Clear cut best 2 players.
Idk if well beat the Dutch but we gave a good shot.
It has nothing to do with age, lol. It is a tactical decision to use your midfielders for offensive in the first half all the time, especially wings.
USA get on the ball on the opponent side and they push forward with full 4 of midfield. No crosspass for holes, genuinely pushing forward in positions. Thats hella exhausting. They can't keep it up for full time, as i said after 60ish minutes they were dying and give up posession on the midfield, hence Zimmermann coming in. Having no midfield control against a diciplined european squad is basically suicide.
Also Dutch on their worst day would pass 3 times as much as iran or england, so above mentioned comb tactic will be 3 times as exhausting.
Also their defense is questionable, not terrible in any means and here you might be right with age but they look really desperate to ged rid of the ball from the box everytime, giving up posession.
Dutch is in a shit form so if USA squad can adapt and change they do have a chance.
Also Oranje is famously good and hard in the knockout stages and they might been on half throttle as they had an easy group especially after winning the opening.
We'll see, it will be entertaining. I predict an offensive failure from Oranje but brilliant defense so either 0-0 and penalties or tight scores.
