Best player of relegation threatened trash. Sounds much more like a utd signing. :P

True, but while everyone mocked Liverpool for spending £75m on a centre back, it was painfully clear to see VVD was a class defender - not something that can be said about Maguire, who's also just been named as our captain, six months after joining the club <_<

Even EA don't rate him, he's 82 on fifa

It was clear VVD was a good defender, but certainly not world class. Most fans and pundits alike thought it was a massive overpay, including many Liverpool fans. VVD didn't have much international pedigree while at Southampton, but Maguire got it at the World Cup. Leicester did better than Southampton during both CB's time there. It's very difficult to tell how good a player is individually when the collective team is doing poorly - that's what separates regular scouts from the good ones.

It's clearer that Wan Bissaka was a class defender at Palace. Unfortunately though, for top teams the full backs are defending a lot less than they used to and are required to go forward and create. I watched him try to do step overs and whip in some crosses against Wolves and that convinced me he'll never be a threat going forward during his career.

Maguire, Lindelof and Wan Bissaka is a good defence, I just don't rate Shaw at all and De Gea has regressed a lot. De Gea under Van Gaal was probably the best keeper I've ever seen and the team around him wasn't much better then.

Ndidi will go to PSG or somewhere like that at the end of the summer. Citeh will bag Chilwell. Maddison will stay because no big clubs will go in for him. Heard it here first

Maguire has been dining on his WC rep ever since, I genuinely don't think he's any better than run of the mill central defender like Cook, Tarkowski or Lascalles - it's a lot easier to look competent when you're part of back three - Luiz was regarded as league's best defender in Conte's first season at Chelsea.

AWB is pretty much direct opposite to Trent, he's great defensively but can't attack

Nah I think he's better than those players, he's better on the ball for a start. Maguire is the least of your worries, it's the midfield that needs sorting out big time and a proper winger cos James isn't good enough yet. He should be the bench option for a while

Had you appointed Klopp, who knows if Maguire wasn‘t the world‘s best defender right now?

I can't think of a single outstanding performance he's had this season so far and for someone supposedly good in the air, he missed some absolute sitters from set pieces as well.

I suppose there's a bit of Hummels about Maguire but doubt Klopp would be stupid enough to even consider signing Maguire.

Rashford not even on the bench, Shaw as a central defender <_<
