£85m for Maguire, it will never cease to amaze me how stupid everyone involved starting from the manager through the board and then the owners to find this anywhere near acceptable value for money - for this sort of amount you could've signed any defender in the world other than VVD.

There is no way you'd have paid that much if we hadn't already paid £75m for Van Dijk and it being a success.

Maguire is a good defender but he's slower than my nan so will never be really top level. When Ole gets the sack and you don't park the bus every game he's only going to get worse as more space is left in behind for opposing teams to exploit.

True, but while everyone mocked Liverpool for spending £75m on a centre back, it was painfully clear to see VVD was a class defender - not something that can be said about Maguire, who's also just been named as our captain, six months after joining the club
