Welcome back, Mariano. B)

Happy with this signing to be honest, seems like he has become a proper striker.

I don't understand why they would buy Courtois and then let Navas start in goal, surely the club wanted him but the coach doesn't?

Florentino has wanted Keylor out or benched since the moment he signed him. He never expected him to bench Casillas, and after that he has constantly tried to replace him with De Gea. This is why he signed Courtois.

Meanwhile Lopetegui never asked for a replacement keeper, so he sees no reason to bench Keylor, at least as long as he keeps performing. Courtois will need to earn his spot. Lopetegui isn't the type of guy who gives spots in the starting XI for free... at least with the national team, he usually had no problems changing the team as he saw fit, without caring too much about names.

I suppose Courtois will play the CL and Copa, but we'll see. Personally, that's what I hope for, and I think it's a fair situation... new players that come into a team that has won 3 consecutive CLs shouldn't be expecting a free pass into the starting XI.

I love how we were so smart letting Sevilla make the bid, so that once they agreed terms with OL, the frenchies had to let us know about the agreement due to the clause in Mariano's contract, and we simply had to equal it in order to get OL to accept our bid, allowing us to bring back Mariano for just 26M€.

If we had made a bid ourselves before Sevilla made a move, OL would have asked us for 60-80M€.

Altho it makes no sense to pay that money for a backup keeper that's younger, but who am I to judge rofl

Interesting draw. Not an easy one, but it certainly could've been harder.

Madrid is an empty city in July/August. Lots of people are still on vacation until tomorrow.
