You know what I find hilarious?
JR and Alvin comes in, throws shade at the previous regime for being directionless and locking themselves to long term deals and such. So what did they do so far? Pretty much cosplay Benning.
- overpay for one of top UFA available (Mikheyev)
- trade away a 2nd (Benning special) to gain roughly 1mil cap by dumpimg Dickinson who played with am undiagnosed broken hand and Stillman (let the revolving door dmen begin)
- extend boeser and Miller, and trying to extend horvat (after mentioning the core/room being country club and changes are needed)
What's their direction? Copy Benning?

The direction is entropy, apparently. If the intent is to win now they needed to have made 1-2 bold trades. Instead they kept the roster as is with a few garbage in-out signings, complete with a big UFA overpay like how Ferland was. So it's trending that way. To go full Benning they need to piss away picks for marginal players, keep overpaying UFAs then make a big trade for an albatross.
Jim is an old dog and Allvin doesn't seem to have much of a spine, they were probably fooled by the good stretch under BB even though there was a lot of unsustainable shit going on. The team has shown its true colors many times over yet Aquaman and his hires keep focusing on glimpses instead of what they see most of the time.
It's crazy how Treveling had the rug swept from under him and he managed to salvage the Flames in short notice. This front office had months to make their moves, everyone thought they'd pull something off but it was all the same song and dance.
It's really strange because everything they've said and shown so far suggests that they know what the issues are and they are a competent group but yeah, when it comes to the actual roster transactions it's hard to even tell that management was overhauled.
It's still early, and I'm willing them to give the benefit of the doubt for now as I did with early Benning but with the contracts that were signed this summer, they've pretty much locked themselves into this roster and core and it'll take a lot of asset bleeding to get out of it.
