When most your fans and most medias following the team are french i get the point they want a GM that can speak french.

Unless there's a clear genius availble i don't see why Molson would take the risk of hiring an english GM

I personally dont give a shit if the guy can't speak french, but if i was Molson i would never take that risk.

First of all, You should go out of Montreal sometimes. 79% of the population speak French. As far as I know, there is only one NHL team in Quebec, basically that means that it's not only "Montreal" team but the whole Quebec team.
Second of all, the best gm in the league is Julien Brisebois and as far as I know, he speaks French. So you can be a great gm and speak French, you dont have to choose one or the other.
Third of all, I invite you to read a little bit more about Quebec History which include Montreal Canadiens.

I mean what make a candidate better than another ? We can both agree that Milbury and Chiarelli are trash based on what they've done. So you can hire someone who has been in the league for some times like them, who has a history of bad trades and contract, or you hire someone who has never been a gm in NHL before.
I agree with you if the guy has a lot of experience and has proven that he is a good gm, I wouldn't care that he doesnt speak French. For example, if Joe Sakic wants to be Montreal GM, I am okay with that. But if the guy has no experience then im asking him to atleast speak French because otherwise what makes your different from the others candidate.

Julien Brisebois is considered the best gm right now.
