Hughes has been an agent for the last twenty-plus years representing QC players. He speaks French, which was a must for the new GM. What's key here is he has a close friendship with Gorton. Habs were looking for someone to work well with Gorton, a GM that would meet the language requirement for the job while letting Gorton drive the bus and make the key decisions.
