Yeah, dumping a suspect player who would have become our second-highest paid forward with his 5 goals at a 6.1 mil cap hit, who disappears for long stretches losing his confidence every season and within an hour replacing him with a more proven, more reliable two-way centre at a good salary thru his prime years. While habs drafting has been shit, I would argue its important to remember that drafting and developing players period is difficult. Especially when you get outside of lottery picks and the 1st round. Kotkoniemi had a good camp 2018, playing like he was ready. He looked comfortable and forced management's hand to put him on the roster, not the around way around.
