According to assistant gm Trevor Timmins, the staff became aware Mailloux was going to be scooped up in the 2nd round. Hence, they decided to pull the trigger and draft him while he was still available in the 1st.

what kind of gm would disclose info like this openly to another teams staff hmm kinda sus
sounds like sabotage knowing bergiven liked him like "yeah were taking him in the 2nd if hes there" so they waste a 1st on him
or the habs trying to justify using a 1st lol

I dont think it was so much a specific team clearly saying "were gunna draft Mailloux in the second round", I believe it was rather a general idea or sense our staff got from seeing how the draft was going. There's lots of discussions being had leading up to and on draft day and I think with Mailloux requesting not to be drafted, it probably came up amongst gms and scouts in these conversations.

Habs inability to draft and develop is hysterically bad.

Why have they never bothered to fix this? It’s been dog water for over 10 years now.
