Tell me about Schmidt? He was an absolute beast for Vegas (when not injured), why are Nucks looking to move him? And how is his game?

It is all rumors but the general consensus is Schmidt is the one who wants out of Vancouver. The Canucks are just begrudgingly shopping him around.

His game is alright. He struggled a bit in his transition to a new team at times but that was to be expected seeing he is relied on so much. That is why we cant really lose him but it seems there is no choice.

Besides Quinn Hughes the Vancouver backend has little offensive ability. The problem with trading Schmidt is that puts even more coverage/pressure on Hughes because he would go back to being the only offensive threat on defense.

If the Canucks do move him out he has to be replaced by someone that has the same capability. There are not many defenders available who play big minutes, in difficult roles while still being able to chip in offensively.

Schmidt never requested a trade according to Benning, however he must've told a close acquaintance of his how tough it was for him this season. Hence the rumor's broke out that he requested a trade.

He's an outgoing and extroverted guy, and he definitely didn't wanna leave Vegas. The Canucks struggled hard right out of the gate playing like 16 games in like 20 days, with only 1 practice. It showed on the ice.

Cuz of covid, he couldn't go out, explore the city, couldn't hang out with teammates, had a rough season, he wasn't utilized to his strength on the team because Green basically had no choice but to play him as a shutdown D role with Edler.

He's still a good player, so I think Benning is willing to trade him if other teams offer the Canucks something that makes sense, otherwise probably just keep him around.

Seems like it will be McCabe and Smith if edler/harmonic goes.

Hopefully the Canucks doesn't shop the 9th oa pick, unless they feel that the prospect that dropped is meh and the trade would get them far more value.

Further evidence that Schmidt fell on Benning's lap. How in the bloody fuck do you see him as expandable while moving heaven and earth for a washed up overpaid vet?

Holy Jesus batman that's a blockbuster lmao

Giving away 1st and 2nd sucks ass, but essentially its a 1st for garland and only a 2nd to dump 3 contracts. OEL contract is NOT buyout proof, so if he declines towards the end he can be buyout. Just gotta pray oel bounces back playing under green and change of scenery.

Addresses the backend need slightly (oel instead of smith or McCabe), really solidifies top 9. Another big thing is that this trade might give us a chance to sign Petey or Hughes to a long term deal instead of a bridge.

Pray real hard oel is remotivated to play how he used to play with a change of scenery  sigh

Garland is really good, he's definitely worth a 1st round pick. 60pt player in yotes, that drives his own line and draws penalty?

What's shiity is gambling OEL works out. At least he could be bought out and not be stuck like loui

Our top 9 is finally insane, horvat should have a lot more freedom now and green will probably be abusing Dickinson the way he abused horvats deployments

Miller Petey boeser
Hoglander horvat garland
Pearson Dickinson podkolzin/motte

I wonder with beagle departing, Sutter is coming back 4c role... 1mil deal or something... But I rather someone else still

With yotes picking Guenther at 9oa makes it even better, basically skipping the whole process of waiting for him to develop into a garland in 3 to 5 yrs. Makes me feel mentally better giving up the 9oa pick haha

So 2nd to dump 3 contracts and 7th to gamble on OEL working out or not

Benning is a hoot.

Garland is a very good player but OEL is 30 and has kinda sucked for a few years now.

There's a very good chance he isnt worth the contract this year, which makes you cringe at the term left....
