Possible "Draft pick tourney".... there goes our pick....

Realistically i see two options that i would consider "fair"

1. If the season ends up getting cancelled they should just not have a lottery. Set the order relative to the standings when the season gets cancelled.
2. Finish the season and carry on as normal with a condensed version of the draft and offseason.

Any thing else in my opinion would be doing a disservice to the teams at the bottom.

Theres no way in hell we can win enough games in a tournament for the top pick, and obviously the better teams will win. I dont see how that encourages anything except for loading top talent on good teams further pushing the bad teams down.
And if you go opposite, ie worst team in the tournament gets the better pick, then it encourages tanking and whichever GM and team want it bad enough can get that top pick.

I think a tournament is a bad idea not only for the NHL, but also the fans of the bad teams.

This year the draft is very deep and they have to approach this very carefully, allowing playoff teams or even stanley cup contenders to pick at the top of the draft this year can and probably will seriously hurt the bad teams but also the overall level of competition in the league.

I think the "tournament" for the picks is stupid af and is absurdly unfair, also. They are coming out with some pretty retarded "options".... we fucking need a high pick so bad, and we deserve it. I don't even think our team hit 40 fucking points yet this season. If that is not proof enough that we need a good fucking good pick.

We are the only team in the league who has cemented their spot in the standings. Even if it is last place, it still means something.
Now maybe if they did two tournaments one for the playoff teams and one for the non-playoff teams and either exclude the red wings since we are already locked into last place or make it the rules similar to the lottery that you cannot move down more than 3 spots then i would be okay with it, but i dont know how you can fairly implement that rule in a tournament setting.

From what I heard on the radio this morning it's only one GM who came up with this stupid idea, I don't think they are seriously entertaining it.

Yeah it really was a dumb idea. One other thing to take into consideration is what do the teams without their first round pick do ? Like the Sharks this year for exemple, would they still to determine where Ottawa drafts ? Just a bad idea overall.
