Leave the draft lottery as is, allowing each time not in a playoff spot a shot just like normal.

But the higher end teams do get absolutely fucked. Some made trades for rentals and 2yrs players (1st for lolgoodrow) and get no chance to rake in playoff revenue or win a cup, so those teams that arent eligible for the draft lottery deserve some other sort of compensation for spending to the cap and having a good year that ended on the same day as the shitty teams.

I'm on board for ideas involving compensation picks, extra buyout, or maybe even only the non lottery eligible teams splitting revenues or something along that line. I'm not sure what they can do, but if the bottom teams dont get their lottery chances messed with, the high end teams should be rewarded some way.

This is only if this season plus playoffs is over and done

Some teams will benefit, others will get screwed. No way around it.

As said earlier the teams that traded for rental players would get absolutely squat if nothing changes.

It is not like you can just roll back trades though so I think they are stuck.

I don't really give a fuck if some teams get screwed like canucks paying hefty price for a 10 game rental. I care more of the fact that Ovechkin is being robbed of a chance to break Gretzky's goal record to solidify being literally goat goal scorer to ever play in NHL. In my mind, he already is but breaking that record would just prove it to everyone. He had 48 goals this season... such a monster. Could've hit 55-60goals! 4 more 50+ goal season and he breaks it ezpz!

I would be so sad if Ovie plays til like 40+ like jagr and he's like 5 to 10 goals away from breaking the record and his body just can't handle it to play a bit more QQ
i dont think ovie will stick around like jagr though, he seems more open to retiring and spending time with his family more

If he breaks it, cool, if he doesn't, whatever. I don't think you can blame the shut down unless he gets within about 10 goals...
It would be neat to see someone in the modern era take away a record that seems like it will never be broken, but I'm not going to bank on him getting consecutive 50 goal seasons in the twilight of his career.
Regardless of how he's been playing, you never know what could happen to him as he ages, sometimes things just don't work right anymore.
Either way, if Gretzky called for the puck as much as Ovi, he might have 1000+ goals... But instead he has almost 2000 assists
