I never understood this either.

You are locked out from doing anything meaningful on the site due to scamming or breaking the rules in some way.

Why should you even get to keep the username?

Most are probably dead accounts that have not been used in years.

they dont want extra load on the server with name changes duh
but yeah over time banned accs should lose the right to the name or something i get you neda name to be banned

but change it to like banneduser1306 or something

u dont need a name to be banned

but they dont want people taking those names and othering thinking they are the same person (maybe)

make a site suggestion they are always doing changes maybe you can get him to be user795410 instead of ovechkin
banned users go by user id or something

I like reading through those threads and that one makes me laugh. I understand he's a top donor so from a business perspective it would be silly to remove him from the site, but, from an outsiders perspective it looks like he's intentionally dragging out as long as he can providing the bare minimum information possible just because he knows he's "untouchable"



I checked general help/site suggestions and there are way too many topics about this and every time it's shut down. I understand their side of it (not wanting someone with X name being accused of doing X thing they didn't do because the other user did it in the past) but I also like the "user3902983" idea since it opens up a lot of creative names out there that have gone to waste.
