Weber / Anderson? I mean obviously it has to be 12 mil in one or two roster spots.

So I'm sure everyone else has noticed the trend by now but since 2016-2017 this team/core has proven it is incapable of playing 60 playoff minutes. Especially frustrating during this series which may very well be the least physical series this year and maybe the least physical series this team has ever faced.

Besides the obvious contract issues, how do you even go about fixing this issue?

Perhaps this young team needs more "veteran presence" with someone who's won a cup before? Who would fit that bill and want to be in Edmonton? (my initial thought are guys like Doughty/Chara which I do not see moving teams but you get the point)

The most obvious upgrade would be getting some proper bottom 6 forwards who will produce sometimes, but whoever is in charge of keeping an eye out for bottom 6 talent these last few years has really dropped the ball. Most of our young prospects expecting to come up in the next year or two are defensemen as well, so just seems like an obvious fix management has yet to address.

Just some frustrated ramblings :P

It's pretty tough to watch.

A lot of Edmonton's bottom 6 players would be AHL players on just about every other team.

So many have got a chance to play with Mcdavid/Draisatl and have not been able to produce.

I agree with you. You should be able to draft serviceable bottom six guys fairly easily.

Mcdavid has been with the Oilers for 6 years. Draisatl began to emerge as a superstar five years ago........

It's not like there has been a lack of time to build around two phenomenal players.

Think he just got a new job and there was lots of overtime being offered.

Hopefully that is the reason lol. Absolutely crippling loss.

They'll be fine I think.

Just have to wait out some bad contracts so that they can get the top players some support (that's assuming they don't sign more bad ones in between). Pretty similar to the Canucks in that sense, actually.

McD and Drai still have years and years left as top forwards.

Thank you for being the one team more disappointing in these playoffs than the blues

Holland

"If we were getting Duncan at $2.75m the cost would have been higher. It was we would give up more assets and get less cap or go with the current deal." Holland on why there was no salary retention.

"People can analyze the deal. I have to make a deal. I feel our team is better today. We dealt a young player who wasn't established for a player who is. The hope is that Duncan will bring a lot on the ice and some intangibles that are difficult to put a price on."

"You say that he's on the decline, but nobody knows. We're going to go through training camp and the games will decide. He's been a great player for a long time."

"I'm aware of the analytics and they weren't as good as his prime. I'm not asking him to play that role, Nurse will. In a lesser role I think he can help, and I hope he will be excited about a new challenge. After all the information we looked at, I am happy to add Keith"

"The cap number is a liability if he doesn't play well. Right now everyone is speculating. Analytics can give you a guide. Stats can give you a guide, but no one knows for sure how players will react. At this stage of his career he's a second pair defenceman." Holland on Keith.

"This has been two weeks in the making, we went back and forth, I talked to my coach, we've looked at analytics, we've called people around the league, and ultimately, I made the decision that I think Duncan Keith will be a great addition to this hockey team."

"I'd like to re-sign Adam. Ultimately it is his decision if he wants to sign here. Acquiring Keith has no impact on our ability to sign Adam. We have cap set aside for him." Holland on Larsson.

"The chances of Oscar Klefbom of playing in 2021/2022 are very low."

that sure inspires confidence in the Oilers' pro scouting
