Even if Calgary is afraid/knows Tkachuk is walking, they can still trade him elsewhere/anywhere for full value. You know the Blues would jump at any chance if he were made available.

Why throw him into this deal?

At this point, 1 for 1 would be more fair.

if the flames are trading him cause they dont want to qualify him for the 9m and isnt traded he walks to UFA and u can sign him for free
teams might wait to see if they can get him as UFA or pressure the flames into a trade before then for less value knowing they are in that situation
but there isnt a whole lot of teams that can actually qualify him for 9m thats a lot of money and he is a good player but is he 9m good?
