not really, we only have 12 players signed with 20M cap space. Hughes/Pettersson alone will take up most of that.

Sounds like they'll probably be getting Barzal like bridge deals.

Rumor yesterday (I think Friedman) that the Canucks have budgeted a combined 15M for them.

unless it's pisslow cap hit, huge mistake to prioritize Pearson over the RFAs.

It's a strategy, if lolbenning uses up the cap, it'll force petey/Hughes agent to get the max possible cap available. They have no leverage as they're rfas. They also don't seem the type to sit for the year either, and prefer to make 1m less and play. They'll just cash in for the next contract and won't be as nice in negotiation.

As for Pearson, If it's 2 yrs then idc if it's 3m+ since next year is whatever anyway. It's the year after when it matters. If it's a 3 yr deal, he better be around 2.5m or less which I still don't see happening lol.

I think defense is set, myers, Schmidt, Hughes are a lock. Edler may or may not come back, hopefully for 2.5m or something. Hamonic will probably be brought back too, he might be affordable since he wanna stay in our region. Then the remaining holes will be filled by juolevi/Chatfield/rathbone to see if they can manage since next season don't matter anyway. Tryamkin can also be a possibility to replace Benn. I actually hope he comes back, just cuz he's the type of dmen we lack... Being able to skate well, pk, block, big etc.

Considering the need to fill out the roster we're talking 15M as absolute maximum between the two. We're not competing this or next year so imo it's a huge mistake to not to try to pay them as much as possible rn to buy UFA years. Otherwise on a shirt bridge we will get cap screwed again once the team is better. It's not the Pearson deal in isolation ofc but the sum of the deals that seem like we won't have a choice other than to bridge then pay top dollar.

with flat cap/covid in play, there's no chance petey/hughes agent is nub enough to try get them a long term deal and use up some of their UFA years. Everybody knows they'll be worth a lot in the future, and it just makes no sense for them to lock themselves up rn.

[Pagnotta] Sabres want a 1st and a prospect for Hall (and likely retaining 50% of his deal)

Can't see his value being any higher than Palmieri's at this deadline, and the latter went for essentially a 2nd + 3rd after retention.

I can see a team offering a 2nd + decent prospect.

Agreed, but if they retain 50% thats 4m for a elite top 6 rental. Also he has no problems driving his line and creating high danger chances, his teammates just can't finish. Also doesn't help that he can't finish either

Buffalo will probably end up caving in for something, rather than lose him for nothing
