More teams in playoffs = more money.

Can not really argue against that. Arizona started sliding when they traded for Hall. The guy is cursed lol. For some time they were actually division leaders.

Maybe he's locker room cancer. He's not cursed, if anything he's blessed for allowing teams to win lottery so often jajaja

"The NHL has officially approved a 24-team playoff format for its return to play, with each conference playing its games in a single hub city, commissioner Gary Bettman announced Tuesday.

Though there is no official date for a return, Bettman said the league will immediately proceed with the playoffs when teams take the ice again.

There are 10 hub cities currently under consideration:

Chicago
Columbus, Ohio
Dallas
Edmonton
Las Vegas
Los Angeles
Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota
Pittsburgh
Toronto
Vancouver
Seeding will be determined by the conference standings based on points percentage - a calculation dividing accrued points by maximum possible points."

• 2019-20 season is officially over
• 24 teams remain (12 each conference)
• 2 hub cities
• One city per conference w/ secure hotels arenas and transportation
• Playoffs will be played through summer into fall
• "Bye" teams round robin for seeding regular season OT/Shootout rules
• Play-in round best of 5 playoff rules
• First and Second round may be best of 5 or 7, conference and cup finals will be 7
• East "Byes": Bolts, Bruins, Caps, Flyers
• West "Byes": Blues, Avs, Vegas, Stars
• Draft lottery will be top 3 - one or two drawings
• 7 eliminated + 8 losers in play-in will be included
• Sounds like 1st drawing will be 7 eliminated teams + 8 placeholders. If a placeholder wins a lottery spot (1, 2, or 3) a draw will be done later with all losers in play-in round recieving equal odds at that pick or picks won by placeholder teams

Yup. 100%
They will say its because the play-in round doesnt officially count as the playoffs, but its really because theres too many big markets in the play-in teams. Stocking those big markets with star players = $$$$$

Pittsburgh
New York
New York
Toronto
Montreal
Vancouver
Chicago

I wonder what went into selecting potential hub cities. I feel like detroit would be a pretty solid option for the east teams, especially since covid has been relatively less prominent in detroit as some of the other cities, we have lots of hotels, and lots of rinks in the area to hold games and/or practices. And would also be totally neutral (heard this was a potential requirement) since we are already eliminated.

Though it doesnt seem like they put too much emphasis on being neutral since all but LA is a city that is home to one of the 24 teams.
