Apparently the gap is quite large still.

Rantanen wants something similar to Marner and the Avs brass feel they can offer 2 million less.

Not going to happen. They better pay up if they know what is good for them. I can't think of anything missing in Rantanens game.

The one thing that has always bothered me , is his skating. Whiles it's gotten 10X better in the 3 years he's played. I've always compared him to bambi on ice. I'm not sure if it's just his Finnish diving roots tho

I also hate things playing out this late but if sakic signs him for anything less then 10 mil and for more then 6+ years, he wins this hold out. I bet a deal gets done for 7 years @ 9.5. comparables only go so far and sakic knows he can't end up like dubas. He's got Makar, Landy and Mack to all give raises too in the next 4 years also.

That could be wishful thinking ofcourse and I understand that.

Haha fair comment. Always room to improve.

I can totally understand why the Avs are playing hardball. Everything you said makes sense.

They have so many talented players that are going to get big paydays. It all has to fit under the cap somehow. If Byram pans out as expected that will be another young guy looking for a big raise too.

I actually think Dubas did fine with the Marner negotiations. It is the Tavares signing and piss poor handling of the Nylander signing that put them on the edge I would say.

With the Avs future needs and Ranatanen being such a great player I think it would be better value if they aim for long term vs bridge deal with him.

I think that is what Sakic is going for but we can only speculate. I think a deal will get done and he will be ready for the opener. I am going to predict 6 years at a little over 9 million per, which would be in winning territory like you said.

"Mikko Rantanen agrees to six-year, $55.5 million contract ($9.25 million average) DENVER — Right winger Mikko Rantanen became the Avalanche's highest-paid player Saturday by agreeing to a six-year contract worth $55.5 million, a club spokesman told The Denver Post."

There it is. Well worth it. Rants is too good to lose.

Been a while, boys!

Haha maybe a little bit. Almost a 2 mil gap lol.

Always have to remember to figure tax rates into the equation.

Nice strong start.

Getting away with a little bit of a high stick there to set up Rants, right in front of the official. Horseshoe up Landy's ass for sure.
