I was referencing the point about how Hayes isn’t a player that can help you win a cup. I agree he is overpaid but the salary aside if you look at the blues roster, especially a lot of their depth additions, they were players not looked at as necessarily players that could help get you a cup.

Point being a team can come together with the right additions etc. I wasn’t meaning that to be a knock on the blues.

well almost any player can help win a cup, but overpaying middle 6 players leads to overpaying top 6 players which leads to major cap issues and immovable contracts which leads to rebuilds

i feel like were hearing the nucks are trying to do all this shit but i look at their roster and its like "who the fuck would you even trade for that"
literally only good players worth trading for are probably untouchable and the rest the nucks are trying to get rid of

as a nucks fan who do you guys see being traded for somebody of value?
like picks is all i really see but your in a rebuild you should be drafting

Benning is all talk at this point. Trying to find a GM dumber then him. Like you said, they don't have much to offer other then picks. Even their prospect pool is rather lacking. The nucks aren't in a bad spot but they need to let their young talent keep growing and not fuck things up by trading for a player that'll help them right this second.

Agree, when i hear continuous rumours about one GM “shopping x player” or moving up in the draft, or whatever, all I think is that that particular GM is talking/leaking to the press more than to other gms. And then just waiting for the phone to ring.

Apparently Ryan Callahan has been diagnosed with Degenerative Disc Disease of the Lumbar, he's not expected be play professional hockey again and will be placed on LTIR by the Lightning.
I was really hoping Stevie Y could swing a deal to assume his cap hit in exchange for pick(s)

They have cap. They can take on contracts that expire in two years. That is huge. Packaging a shit contract with someone lowers the price drastically obv

they did it without losing any picks

its weird when flyers had it with pronger it counts until day 1 of the season but pre season you are allowed to go over the cap by like 10% or some thing so technically you could sign their cap and then as soon as season starts they go on LTIR and it all gets sorted out
pretty convenient for the lightning really

gms want to dump cap without losing good players most times though because if they are doing that they are trying to contend not dump cap and get worse
if anything i see the nucks taking on contracts for bonus picks/prospects and just building through the draft or maybe trade those picks for shit

I think Canucks fans know we don’t have many tradable assets outside of say a retained tanev(lol) and maybe sutter or virtanen. Those aren’t going to get you much. However if we could take advantage of our cap situation like Carolina did for chi with the bickell/teravainen I think would be a huge feat for Benning. They are just drumming up interest for the draft with it being in Van and all.

That's exactly why it's hilarious. Benning is calling for players he want, and probably tells them 10th pick is untouchable and the cores. Pretty much u can have granny, Sutter, beagle, Tanev, eriksson and the other Gm hangs up. Benning calls new team with same proposition  maybe 1 Gm will agree?!

Baertschi is pretty good top 6 player but he has concussion history and prolly too risky for other Gm to want him. Canucks don't have much to offer, maybe madden or Lind etc prospects and take some shit contract back
