The Athletic and Stadium's Shams Charania appeared on The Ryen Russillo Podcast Tuesday and said he believes Harden is "torn" between Philly and Houston.

Quote
"I don't think he knows, as far as what I know about his mindset. ... I really think that he's torn with the prospect of staying in Philadelphia or moving on to Houston potentially and returning back to his home. That's where his roots are, his family is there, of course. They've got upwards of [$60 million in cap space], they could make even more money available—close to $70 million in cap space—so they're going to have a ton of money. And this is a team, in Houston, I do believe they're going to be aggressive in the marketplace."

Would be nice to see them run in back with Nurse running the show. Let Morey make some smaller moves and adjust the role players, maybe even try to move Tobias now that he's an expiring deal.

I think Harden ends up coming back at this point. Hopefully it isn't more than 2 or 3 years at most

If they can turn Harris' contract into two decent role players I think they'll consider it but they'd probably have to give some future asset id imagine

Nice to see Springer improving his shot. Doc had previously said he’s already an NBA level defender. If he can contribute off the bench this year that would be very helpful

I'm thinking he has to be in the rotation this season, right? Definitely so if he can be a solid shooter. Still only 20 though, so probably another year or two before we can realistically expect that but maybe he makes the jump early.

If he can make some 3’s, play decent defense, then he has to be. He hasn’t been much of a distributer in the g league with only 2.8 assists per game but he did get a lot of steals, 2.3 per game. The blue coats also needed him to be more of a scorer so I don’t know if he was necessarily asked to be a passer. I think there’s enough there to warrant coming off the bench, if he can hit the 3 enough

And I agree he is young so the expectations have to be realistic, but he is going into the 3rd year of his 4 year contract so it’s almost like if not now, when will it happen? At least in a Sixers uniform

NBA reporter Marc Stein believes there’s a strong likelihood that James Harden re-signs with Sixers.

Stein suggested that The Beard’s desire to win a championship might be stronger than wanting to return to Houston.

But there’s another reason why Harden is likely staying with the Sixers, Stein said.

“There is a loyalty factor for Harden to weigh after Sixers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey spent the bulk of his first 15 months in the City of Brotherly Love trying to acquire him, finally succeeding in February 2022,"

Jake Fischer at Yahoo! Sports who is pretty plugged into the Sixers is reporting that the team is focused on re-signing James Harden to a deal less than the max he is allegedly pursuing:

Quote
Philadelphia has made it clear the Sixers are focused on re-signing Harden, who has until June 29 to decline a $35 million player option for next year. Similar to last summer, it appears that Philadelphia would prefer to sign Harden to a shorter-term agreement, one that still provides a lucrative payday for the 10-time All-Star but doesn’t present the Sixers with the possible predicament that Washington currently faces with Beal’s long-term salary. The Sixers will have various paths to move forward if Harden were to walk, particularly by exploring trades for Tobias Harris, who’s entering the final season of his five-year, $180 million contract. But Philadelphia, sources said, is not expected to target Fred VanVleet in the event Harden departs via free agency, despite the obvious connection to new Sixers head coach Nick Nurse, who won a championship with VanVleet in Toronto in 2019. One smaller trade element to monitor for Philadelphia: The Sixers are actively seeking opportunities to acquire a second-round pick in next Thursday’s draft, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
