This this this and more this! We may not even be the 4th best team in the AL now...
It's REALLY absurd when you consider that the Red Sox are one of the richest teams and have the money to spend. The fact that John Henry is being this frugal is absurd. Like even though it didn't matter because he got hurt, sending Clay Buchholz away as a $10M salary dump? Dafuck?
It's their own fault though.. so many god awful signings.
2018 Payroll:
David Price $30,000,000 (Only started 11 games.)
Hanley Ramirez $22,750,000 (Can't field, .242 average and only 23 home runs.)
Rick Porcello $21,125,000 (4.65 ERA 11-17 record.)
Pablo Sandoval $18,000,000 (Released.)
Rusney Castillo $11,771,428 (Minors.)
Tyler Thornburg $2,050,000 (Didn't play at all after a weird injury involving the Red Sox training program.)
Allen Craig $1,000,000 (Released.)
There's a $106,696,428 hot pile of garbage.
Granted there's a chance Price can be healthy, Porcello and Hanley bounce back, Castillo magically gets better and Tyler Thornburg actually plays a game for us. (God damn wouldn't it have been nice to have Travis Shaw?) None of that is likely though.
Also fun fact the Red Sox are still paying Manny Ramirez $2,000,000 in deferred salary this year. Doesn't count against the payroll but it's funny.
