The Cy Young contender isn't their best pitcher? The guy who is a top 3 contender for NL Cy Young? 🤔

Lol whaaaat

Fried missed a decent amount of starts. Strider does have 20 wins and his K Rate is insane, but he's 4th on the team in ERA. Elder was really good 1st half but has had a rough 2nd half. Strider was pretty good tonight but couldn't score

Fried 2.55
Morton 3.64
Elder 3.81
Strider 3.86

Wheeler game 2. He looks sharp, and if he's on...Braves are in trouble.

I'd imagine Braves are ready to fight though. Bats won't get shut down like they did tonigh...right? 😳

Also did you just imply Morton is their #2 ahead of Strider? There's absolutely zero question of who the Braves top 2 starters are and they do not include Morton or Elder lol

The way strider looked tonight is better than Morton. But they could be interchangeable. Strider gives up more homeruns from high fastballs. Morton's ERA is lower by a tad so if Morton was healthy and he started I wouldn't have cared. I'd pick strider over him probably but its close. Strider wasn't as dominant this year. 27th in ERA isn't great

You're in love with ERA. There is zero question of who the Braves two best starters are and they do not include that dinosaur Morton lol.

Fried and Strider are the Braves two best starters, without question. After that feel free to argue all you want. But the top 2? Yeah, no questions...

It's a lot closer than you would think. Morton is still a solid pitcher. Strider is overhyped.

I don't think there's any debate for the best MLB rivalry. Has to be Yankees - Red Sox

Giants dodgers and it’s not even close, from one side of the county to the other

Strider has wayyy better stuff though, and he's 15 years younger and still getting better. His career is just getting started. Morton is a capable vet who can have big games, but he's old as dirt now and doesn't have anywhere near the stuff that Strider has.

Wheeler vs Fried should be a good one for game 2. Phillies sending out their two best games 2 and 3 so it doesn't get any easier for Atlanta.

Also interesting thing to note was the Phillies game plan all along to pull Suarez early and throw heat with the pen. They didn't tell Suarez ahead of time though (which is why he was upset at first).

Quote
The whole rationale for this plan was that for as good as the Braves lineup is, and statistically it has been historically good, they do struggle with high velocity. They set a record as a team with a slugging percentage of .501 for the entire season. That’s pretty remarkable. But, diving deeper into that number you’ll find they are even better against pitches 96MPH or slower (.512) but are less effective (.396) against pitches 97MPH or faster.

So, the Phillies’ plan was to get 16 outs throwing a lot of that upper echelon heat at the Braves. And they did.

Phillies already teeing off on Fried

If they can knock him out early, Phils got a good shot tonight
