Not that Communistic , they just have content rules -like a certain % of content has to be Canadian made.

Like - we dont have pure HBO, we have HBO Canada whichs pick some HBO content but then also broadcast enough content to make up the Canadian broadcasting rules.

Although they are loosening up somewhat - bnut lets say i wanted to stream a video from HBO.com - I cant unless they have approved that show on HBO.ca first.

I think it has something to do with American Video rights and who get what % of money for sponsorship with commercials, so not all on Canada.

Most of Canadian content requirements are for radio and Canadian based stations, they don't really effect American stations that get broadcast in Canada (hbo for example).

The majority of it has to do with broadcasting rights and the difference between American and Canadian broadcasting companies.

In short it is basically all bells fault.

Bell has a significant amount of the rebroadcasting rights for shows/movies in Canada and they put in their own commercials and stuff. It is why Netflix has a really hard time getting things on Canadian Netflix. Bell is honestly the worst (not to mention their absolute thievery cellphone service plans).

You can stream/dl almost anywhere. I have Netflix, everything else, including live sports broadcast, I watch via stream.

Finally, some quality entertainment comes to Sunday.
