My first watch of True Romance, I though 'meh'. Second watch, I loved it. But Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs are both still better IMO.

Ill probably space it out quite a bit.

Usual Suspects(1995): I really liked it. Just plain damn good.

Old (2021 - HBO): I thought it was passable? There's some odd plot holes and some of it is a little tacky but it was at least an interesting concept?

Ghost Dog (1999 - HBO): Really cool. Soundtrack is right up my alley, Forest Whitaker kills it, story is solid. I think I give the movie more passes than I otherwise would cuz I really dig the samurai stuff in general.

The man from Toronto

Was decent, I wasn't sure about the Hart and Harrison Collab but was surprised. Mildly entertaining but a few good laughs in between. 6/10

The Blackcoat's Daughter

I was trying too hard to decipher the time lines and characters to really engulf myself into this movie at first. Once the ending hit, it made things much clearer to me and made me look back at moments in the film with ques that I missed. The ambience and setting in this movie is unreal, it is not like many 'classic' horrors and takes a different approach which I really enjoyed. It is an appreciable possessed/demonic style film. A slow burn, but if you're in the right mood it's rather unsettling and a great watch.

Yes, God, Yes (2019 on netflix) - overall I liked it. I think youd have to have some connection to the early 2000's internet and/or have some connection to catholocism/christianity to "get it" but if you do have those connections it hits pretty close to the mark. There's some weak moments throughout but nothing so awful it ruins the movie.

It (2017 on HBO) - solid flick. Kinda has stranger things vibes with the kids being the heroes. A little bit ridiculous in that sense but it's very watchable. I liked it even tho I'm not much into horror flicks.

It Chapter Two (2019 also on HBO) - weaker in most ways than the first one. I'd argue that the acting is somehow worse? Idk how that's possible but it is. Also the story is way too formulaic, it basically steals plot devices from the first one and just blatantly reuses them. Better jump scares than the first one. CGI is pretty tacky in parts. Definitely a step down in quality but not unwatchable.

9 to 5 (1980 on HBO) - Kinda a fun ride. Characters are flushed out and unique and mostly feel authentic. Boss is well played. Dolly Parton does a surprisingly good job for most of the movie, there's a couple of scenes where she looks out of her element but otherwise she kills it. Not the best movie I've ever seen but it was aight.

Eyes Wide Shut (1999 on Netflix) - Uhhhh idk? The story doesnt really go anywhere lol. Tom Cruise's char is odd as fuck. Makes odd choices. Music was great at first but starts to get overdone at a certain point. It presents some interesting takes on human nature at least.

Midsommar

I have been hammering through A24 content lately, catching up on films I've always intended on watching. Midsommar was a disturbing movie, but I would not put it in the horror genre like many people do. Solid plot base and character development. Extremely predictable, but doesn't ruin the atmosphere and build up that the movie is trying to create. This one is touted as a top A24 movie for many, but it didn't hit that mark for me. I still really enjoyed it though.

Nope

Eh, if you watched the trailer then you can predict the movie. It's basically watching a piece of burnt bologna fly in and out of scenes eating people. Although the meaning was deep, as in it's message was related to people feeding their depression/anxiety by watching tragedy or sad/bad news and letting it eat at you, emotionally. We'd be better off not watching it. As the key to the movie is to not look at the bologna and you metaphorically speaking "wouldn't feed the beast".

Would I recommend? Nope.

6/10
