I have always built with Intel, but now that there’s a crazy deal on the ryzen 2700x today I’m thinking of scooping that up for my next build.
Is there any big differences between the 2?
Do I have to be insanely careful when handling the cpu because of the pins on the back? I’m apprehensive because of how everyone says it’s sooo fragile
Is that the only difference?

intel is still king but you pay a premium for it.
AMD is real close and has no other real downside.

As stated above don't drop it but even then I'm sure it will be fine.
Cpu's are pretty resilient I grab em from scrap yards after they've been pulled
from machines and chucked across teh room into bins piling on top of each other.
I'd say generally out of 10 cpu's picked I get 1-2 bad ones.

Tell me if I got this right

Ryzen 3 = i5
Ryzen 5 = i7 9700k
Ryzen 7 = i9 9900K

Ryzen 7 2700x = 2nd gen
Ryzen 7 3700x = 3rd gen? But people still put 2nd gen in high end builds even though it’s a gen older already?

not exactly... core count is high in ryzen 5/7 based on model.

so core clock aside I'll break things down a tad more clearly...

ryzen 3 4core/assume 2x threads
ryzen 5 4-6 core /assume 2x threads
ryzen 7 8core/assume 2x threads
ryzen 9 12-32core/assume 2x threads

I3 2-4core/assume 2x threads
I5 4-6core/assume 2x threads
I7 4-8core/assume 2x threads
I9 8-14core/assume 2x threads

Is ryzen 3700 significantly better than the 2700? I’m assuming one is 2nd gen and one is 3rd gen of the same model?

Plus any patch improvements that come later on.
