In an Interview on the Battlefield 4 Gamescom Livestream, Lars Gustavsson shares some insider information on a new mode in Battlefield 4 called “Test Range”.

This “Test Range” will allow players to test weapons or vehicles without having to buy a private server, or worrying about someone joining your test match and ruining it for you. The info we got on the mode is quite vague, but we could speculate a lot on what it will persist of.

As Gustavsson puts it, “[you] get to learn to master a Helicopter, or Plane, or try out the Tanks. I think that will also let people get acquainted before they go out and try to master opponents on the battlefield.”

From what we can gather, this will probably be a mode where you can choose any map to test things on, or more realistically, a special map tailored just for whatever you’re testing out — whether it be a gun, gadget, helicopter, or jet.
