That game was in development for ages, and it sucked when it released.

But this game looks much better.

This is a next-generation engine made specifically for the PC. PC is the lead platform. This is the power of DirectX 11.

They're using real-time radiosity. A BF3 map contains thousands of radiosity lighting probes, each of which contains more lighting information than a single Bad Company 2 map.

That video is a real-time demo of what the engine can do. They can change the lighting from day to night in real-time, realistically, without having to preprocess a bunch of stuff.

They're also unveiling more information about the engine at GDC 2011 on February 28th.
