THQ has announced that Metro: Last Light’s Limited Edition will include a Ranger Mode.

Ranger Mode ratchets up the game’s difficulty. The Limited Edition also comes with a AKS-74U rifle and extra military grade ammo, which can be spent on weapon upgrades and equipment.

In Metro 2033, Ranger Mode featured two different settings. On Ranger Easy you were more vulnerable and the crosshairs were disabled. On Ranger Hardcore the entire HUD was disabled and a single bullet would kill you.

Ranger Hardcore was a complete bastard.

Metro: Last Light’s Limited Edition will be the only version of the game available at launch and will last until stocks run out. THQ advises pre-orders for those that want to get in on the action.

Cevat Yerli, chief executive of Crytek, argues that his company’s upcoming game, Crysis 3 (to be published Feb. 19 by Electronic Arts) will “set the benchmark” in 3D graphics for games for the next two years. He believes the PC is racing ahead of the consoles now in terms of the beauty of its graphics. Crysis 3 will feature wonders such as swaying elephant grass, piercing beams of sunlight, water with true reflections, and a host of other special effects that make the game more immersive.
