"So what do you wanna know about that's not Half-Life 3?" Valve president Gabe Newell, laughing, asks a crowd of Redditors who recently visited the Washington-based studio. The group's first question, however, was just as worthwhile. What's up with that supposed new game engine? "We've been working on new engine stuff for awhile," Newell says. It's tough to hear what he says next, but it sounds like, "We'll probably just roll it out in one of our games" (subtitles of the video read: "We've just been waiting for a game to roll it out with"). Thankfully, a followup question directly addresses Newell's ambiguity. "Is it going to be more than just an update to Source [Valve's first game engine]? Is it an entirely new engine?" the Redditor asks, which Newell directly (and concisely) responds to with a simple, "Yeah." See the full back-and-forth beyond the break.

We have some new details on Battlefield 4 courtesy of a Chinese forum called Chiphell. It was apparently leaked via EA China and while the whole scenario sounds rubbish, some of them do make some sense. So check out the details below.

The game runs on the Frostbite 2 engine as expected and will be released on the next-generation consoles. The game was leaked earlier via Origin and there’s a beta coming soon which you can access by buying Medal of Honor: Warfighter. Keep in mind, the game may be quite bad based on our review here.

The game will be released on October 23 next year according to the translated version of the details (Via Neogaf). It will also be released on the current gen platforms because well, EA would be stupid to miss out on the large install base and make it a next-gen only game.

This is still a rumour at this point so take it with a grain of salt. Here are the details.

Coming October 23rd, 2013

Will be on PC, PS3, Xbox360 and next-gen consoles

Will be one of the first games for next-gen consoles

Commander system comes back

Profile can be linked with other devices like iPad

Auto login, need internet all time, support cloud saves

Easier to pickup the game, to take care of players from CoD

Support body and voice control for this commander system

Better battlelog integration and better stats reporting

Supports video playback and sharing

Have gem store for dlc and other stuff like that

3 factions: Russia, USA and China

Can deploy female soliders

Frostbite 2.0 engine

PC, PS4 and Xbox 720 will support 64 players, but 360 and PS3 will be less

PC, PS4 and Xbox 720 will provide 60 fps

Already have a demo video internally within EA

Matching the quality of BF3 already

BF4 will use 80% of power of frostbite 2, wheras bf3 only 30-40%

Modern story background

Crysis 3 is helping the "games with bows" initiative that's rocking the country, but Crytek doesn't plan to stop there. The company is already planning for the future of the franchise, and the next game won't be "Crysis 4" in name or spirit.

"[Crysis 3] is the end of the story of Crysis, but it doesn't mean it's the end of the franchise," Crytek's Cevat Yerli told Eurogamer. We are finalizing the story arc of Prophet and concluding in a dramatic way. But we are excited about the DNA of Crysis and of the franchise." The game isn't in pre-production yet, but Yerli says that's because the team wants to look at it more long-term and make a more "radical" shift.

The game doesn't have a publisher or a business model set. Yerli has previously declared the company would switch to a free-to-play model, but says this game might be a hybrid between a retail game and F2P. Still, he's insistent that the model is the 'inevitable future' for the industry, and says that a plan is in place for a F2P version of Crysis. "How this looks and when this will be done, whether this is the next one or the next next one, is to be decided," he said.

It doesn't even have a name, but we know what it won't be called. "I wouldn't name it Crysis 4 at this stage because it would be misleading," Yerli said. "We want to finalize Prophet's story and Crysis 4 would imply the story just moves on."

crysis has such a bug universe
