Full disclosure: I have not played Day Z.
I would really quite like to play it but from all accounts it's insanely buggy and filled with people running exploits. From what I've read about his development style is that he basically has said that he has no plans to fix the bugs and would rather just keep adding more (read: buggy) features to the game. If that's how he wants to do it, that's fine by him. I have no problem waiting for someone to make a simulator like this without the frustration of dealing with my legs randomly breaking or some invisible asshole killing me from across the map. What he's done is awesome but I'm not so sure it's polished enough for me to care.
edit: Certain types of games benefit from "casualization" as you like to call it. Some games don't. Day Z is not one of them as it's meant to be a hyper-realistic sim. I don't want it to be more casual, I would like for it to work properly.
I can tell you are taking this information from 3rd hand sources. This sounds exactly like some idiot friend just spouting off, and then you taking that information at face value, I have plenty of friends like this don't worry.
He never said that he is not fixing bugs. If you look at his patch notes he is fixing tons of bugs weekly with every patch.
I remember the exact quote you are thinking of here, he said that he doesn't prefer to fix bugs since it is not as fun as adding new content. Not exactly verbatim, but that is the main point there, I can find the exact source on that one if you wish, but I'm out the door right now.
The fact of the matter is he is fixing bugs weekly, and never said that he isn't fixing them, just that he has more fun adding new content.
EDIT: I do agree though, competition is better for us.
