expansions are cool... but they should really fix squad dm first. You don't start in a squad so people just don't join one. Then you end up in a 4 person "squad" with no one to spawn on. Servers with more than 4 people in a squad have broken scoreboards. Bc2 squad dm was basically perfect. Fast paced and you actually have to work together to win.

Tonight Danger Close revealed the international focus present throughout the Medal of Honor: Warfighter experience. Both online and off, every element of the game represents international teamwork amongst Tier 1 teams from 12 different countries.

In multiplayer, players can select British SAS soldiers, Polish GROM teams, the German KSK and more. Whereas 2010's Medal of Honor was set in Afghanistan across a short period of time, Warfighter is set in multiple countries including Somalia and the Philippines. Throughout the missions bringing back characters from the last Medal of Honor entry, they also team up with local special forces teams wherever they're operating.

During a gameplay demonstration, the destructive power of the Frostbite 2 engine (Battlefield 3's framework) permeated every aspect of the fight. While sneaking through a flooded city in the Philippines, the product of a recent monsoon, the members of Task Force Mako shoot down dozens of enemies, cracking through wooden posts, tables, floorboards, and more.

Bullets splashed through the knee-high water flooding the level. And chandeliers swung left and right, reacting to gunfire and explosions surrounding them. After saving a group of hostages, the demo showed off a boat chase through a village ravaged by the flood, with rain and bullets pounding down along the way.

The elements look familiar in the saturated modern shooter world, especially since one main character looks a lot like Captain Price (it's the hat and the beard). Danger Close claims that tone is Warfighter's strongest asset, giving respect to the actions of these based-on-actual-events missions. It's difficult to tell if this takes precedence from a short glimpse of gameplay.

One interesting shooter mechanic that deviated from the modern standards we've grown accustomed to was a multiple choice breach mechanic. Standing to the side of a doorway, the protagonist chooses to kick the door in, breach it with explosives, or toss in a flashbang. Depending on the choice, the events played out inside the room differ.

Crytek is expanding its gaming wings and moving into the mobile platform. The German developer, maker of the Crysis series, announced a puzzle game for the iOS platform featuring a cute little alien named Fibble.

According to the release, Fibble - Flick 'n' Roll "combines strategy with physics based interactions with vivid and highly detailed visuals."

"With Fibble - Flick ‘n’ Roll, Crytek is aiming to surprise people with a whole new style of game as well as to make a big impact in the field of mobile entertainment," said Nick Button-Brown, Crytek's general manager of games. "It will also give us a great opportunity to make a big splash with a whole new generation of players who’ve yet to play a Crytek game. We ourselves love to play games on mobile devices and we very much look forward to bringing our production values and skills to them."

The game surrounds the Fibble, who crash lands on Earth. He gets separated from his crew, but must find them again to get back home. Fibble will also encounter Mini creatures that have certain skills he can use in his adventures.

There’s a mounted gun bit in the demo for Medal of Honor that was on display at GDC last night. It’s a spectacular piece of entertainment, a real showcase of what the tech they’re using to make the game can do. You’re driving along on a dingy as waves lash a flooded Thai city. You’re ferrying rescued aid workers to an extraction point where you’re met by two transport helicopters. They hover, and, in a cutscene, your character attaches ropes to the base of the choppers and you’re lifted away into the sunset.

Throughout the presentation, Greg Goodrich, the creative mind behind the Medal of Honor revival earnestly explains just how important it is to respect the community of special forces operatives that have helped craft the game. They’ve got “an unprecedented group of two dozen” special forces operatives working as technical advisors, and full-time staff. The game itself is based on a book written as a way for two former operatives to “vent” on how they’d fight the war on terror. The game hops around high and low profile special forces missions from the real world: “every relevant mission from the past 30 years,” explains Greg, “including the capture of Noriega.”

The other section shown is a blast through a building. Terrorists hide behind tables, stalk round stairs, and die with graceful ragdolls. The player plants the ironsights over their faces, and they fall over.

The presentation is earnest and respectful.

But it’s still a mounted gun bit. And it’s still a corridor shooter bit.

Medal of Honor is immensely frustrating to me. Here’s the problem: I want to believe the hype. I want to see a publisher with the financial might of EA push to create a game that pushes the boundaries of what games with guns in do. I love Battlefield, but it’s better in hardcore mode. I’m happy with playing CoD, but I’d much prefer to be in ArmA.

Any reader of PC Gamer knows exactly what they’re going to get with Medal of Honor: Warfighter. The demo last night did nothing but tick boxes. But the presentation and the

Epic Games' next-gen Unreal Engine is being shown at GDC; just not to everyone. Only select partners, developers and licensees have seen the future tech that will make Unreal Engine 4-powered games that much more unreal.

Mark Rein, vice president and co-founder of developer Epic Games, has seen it. And while he wouldn't tell me much about UE4, given that those who have seen it in action are under strict nondisclosure agreements, Rein offered some tantalizing details about the next-gen engine.

I asked Rein why that, even though it seems that almost every game is running Unreal Engine 3 these days, why isn't every game running Unreal Engine 3 these days. (The Medal of Honor team, for example, dropped Unreal in favor of EA's in-house engine, Frostbite 2.)

"We're doing [Unreal Engine 4] and I don't think anybody else is doing anything as incredible as that," Rein boasted. A developer who had seen Epic's UE4 demo was sitting nearby, eavesdropping. He vigorously nodded his head in agreement.

"Right? You've seen it?" Rein asked him. That developer gave us his non-verbal impression of Unreal Engine 4 by offering us an eyes-glazed-over, jaw-dropped look.

"Our biggest competition in the engine business isn't somebody else that makes middleware, it's people who make their own," Rein said, getting back to my question. "Most games are still made with their own technology. A lot of people still have their own stuff, our goal with UE4 is to prove to them that it's time [to switch]."

"I have a really good explanation to developers under certain NDAs to answer that, to solve that dilemma for them. But we're just not ready to talk about that yet."

"It's the tools. We are really, really, really investing in tools in a way that I don't think anyone making their own engine can afford to do, has the foresight to do and has enough experience making these things to do as well as we can," he said.

Rein talked about the acceptance of Unreal Engine over its various iterations, saying that expects even more developers of big budget AAA games to adopt unreal.

"UE 4? Look out. Game changer," Rein boasted. "I've said enough."

Rein and Epic may be say more to the public about Unreal Engine 4 in the coming months, however.

"We hope later this year. We don't have a specific date and it's not 100% under our control."

I asked Rein at one point during our interview if Epic Games was going to make hardware spec recommendations to video game hardware manufacturers and, once again, potentially cost Microsoft another $1 billion in RAM costs, as it did with the Xbox 360. Mark declined to give hints about next-gen game hardware, but did assure me that "We are constantly pushing everybody to give us everything, for the benefit of ourselves, our licensees and consumers."

give us a fucken trailer
