stalling a second GeForce GTX 580 improved performance by a whopping 85% from a single GTX 580. This is just about the best SLI efficiency we've ever seen in a game. This is great news for SLI scaling.
thats sp btw
4 mp they did

For our multiplayer testing we used an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 graphics card with NVIDIA ForceWare 285.62 WHQL driver. We found our highest playable settings to be 1920x1200 with Antialiasing Post on "High." Antialiasing Deferred "Off," 16X AF, and all other in-game graphics options set to "Ultra." We did turn off Motion Blur because it was conflicting with our ability to spot enemies using our peripherals; we will look more into the motion blur performance impact in our following article. Our test system consists of an Intel Core i7 920 at 3.6GHz on an MSI Eclipse X58 motherboard.

With these settings our framerates were fairly stable around 60 average FPS. The framerates varied from 57 FPS to 63 FPS. There were a few instances where frame rates would drop significantly but this usually only happened near fires. Framerates in vehicles were normally 10-15 average FPS higher than on foot. Even on the extra large maps with 64 players and 20 players shooting at each other in a small area with lots of explosions and crumbling surroundings the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 provided very playable framerates at 1920x1200. This seemed to be the sweet spot for competitive framerates as well an immersive experience.

Warner Brothers send word that Akham City has sold 4.6 million copies worldwide, and it’s not even out on PC yet. This is interesting, firstly because that is an obscene number for week one sales, and based on the critical rumblings surrounding its release, seemingly well justified. We’ll know soon enough when the PC version hits on November 18. But will these huge week-one console sales hurt the popularity of the PC version? When Arkham City was delayed, those of us with PCs and consoles were forced to make a decision, wait four weeks to play on our preferred platform, or cave in and start breaking criminal faces right away.

With big titles like Arkham City and Assassin’s Creed Revelations receiving significant delays on PC this release season, it’s concerning to think of all those potential PC buyers plugging for a console version because the PC edition has been delayed without explanation. The PC is at the cutting edge of current technology, it should be at the cutting edge of the release schedule as well. Are you planning to hold out for Arkham City PC, or have you opted for the console version?

holy shit thats alot of copies

Spotted via Kotaku is the announcement that Samsung’s new 830 series of solid-state drives will include a free copy of Batman: Arkham City.

The 830 series for desktops comes in four sizes: 64GB ($130), 128GB ($230), 256GB ($430), and 512GB ($850). Not bad for an SSD, and the buzz on the 830 series has been good. If you deduct the $40 or $50 you were planning to spend on Arkham City anyway, it starts to look even better.

When I upgraded my machine a couple months ago, I wasn’t quite able to pull the trigger on an SSD despite the major performance gains. But Samsung’s new offering has me reconsidering. Better load times are always good, and probably even better when combined with beating down Gotham’s thugs. Nvidia is running a similar promotion with its 560 or higher graphics cards. This pushing anyone else toward an upgrade?

Epic Games' Mike Capps has revealed that Epic is already discussing the Unreal Engine 4 tech with hardware manufacturers, about sixteen so far, including console manufacturers. And while no one knows when the next generation will begin, Epic wants to make sure they're ready from the beginning.

"I want Unreal Engine 4 to be ready far earlier than UE3 was; not a year after the consoles are released," he said.

"I think a year from a console's launch is perfectly fine for releasing a game, but not for releasing new tech. We need to be there day one or very early. That's my primary focus."

Epic's "Samaritan" demo stunned viewers when it unveiled earlier this year. "It was just that no one knew what a next-generation game would look like – so that was our idea, to show people what we can achieve," Capps explained to Develop. "We believe what we've demonstrated is achievable at a reasonable development cost, so it's what gamers should be demanding for next generation."

"I think it's very important that a gamer sees an Xbox Next or PlayStation Next and can clearly see the tech is not possible on current consoles. Otherwise they won't be a success," he noted.

Capps also explained that Unreal Engine must also enable smaller titles and developers. "I would like to have a vertical solution – for our tech to be useful for mobile projects and triple-A projects," he said. Recently, the Unreal Engine has been powering a number of iOS games, notably Epic's own Infinity Blade. "In the past few years I think we've learned a lot about our technology and how it works for indie studios. How our tech works for iPhone games, for high-end triple-A studios and for a couple of guys who make a cool UDK game over the summer."

I would be okay with that. The biggest thing I hate about console ports other than the shit support is the graphics.

By chance are you the one to take these screenshots? Because I heard you don't run dx11.
