Counterstrike: Global Offensive, also known as CS:GO or CSGO, is the latest title in the acclaimed Counter-Strike series of first-person shooters by Valve Software. It uses a modern, updated version of the Source engine and release is estimated for Q1 2012 on the Steam platform. Valve announced CSGO in August 2012 after inviting nearly two dozen members of the professional CSS eSports community to their HQ in Bellevue, Washington to give feedback on the current build of CSGO.

"So as everyone's obviously heard the next Counter Strike was announced yesterday. While Valve won't directly say it, from their actions it seems that this new game is aiming at uniting the 1.6 scene and the CSS scene, making Counter Strike the biggest competitive game in the world, once again.
Now, I'm not here to argue that one game is better than the other. That is a matter of opinion. Some people enjoy 1.6 more than Source, and some people enjoy Source more than 1.6. There is no right or wrong answer here. What I AM here to argue however, is that if Valve and Hidden Path (the developers of the new game) were really trying to unite the CS communities, they went about it in the absolutely WORST way possible.
Over the past few days, several prominent players and members of the community were invited to provide feedback to the game and make sure it is as good as possible. This is obviously a good thing, and it is pretty much the first time we have ever seen Valve embrace its competitive community (even in the '04 days at the peak of CS, when legends like Heaton and SpawN were playing for hundreds of thousands of dollars, Valve not once acknowledged the competitive scene). In fact, it is a widely held opinion that ignoring the competitive community, and failing to get input from top players, led to the 1.6/Source split that we currently see. So its obviously a good thing that Valve and Hidden Path invited these prominent community members right?
Wrong.
While Valve did invite several top players to provide feedback on this new game, ALL the invitees were source players. There was not ONE SINGLE representative player from the 1.6 community. I'm not sure if Valve simply doesn't know a 1.6 competitive community exists (even though 1.6 currently has more players, more tournaments, more sponsors AND more prize money), or they don't value the opinions of these players, but their move was an astronomical mistake. The backlash of the 1.6 community at being snubbed by Valve has led more than half of the overall Counter Strike community to instantly cast suspicious eyes on the game. This snub has caused near irreversible damage to the future of CS:GO.
I implore Valve and Hidden Path to understand that there is a HUGE CS 1.6 competitive community out there (bigger than the source competitive community), and that they want their voices to be heard. Please reach out to top 1.6 players like you did with top source players. Talk to legends of the game like Xeqtr, Element, SpawN, or Heaton. Talk to current all-stars, like Neo, f0rest, markeloff, or GTR. Just don't do what you are doing right now, don't give a middle finger to half the Counter Strike community."
Reply here and also make sure you reply in the source forums. The Valve devs actually read those because they care about source unlike 1.6
