Sounds like user error considering you saying 8320 not having problems but 4790k does

Ye, it's impossible to user error 8320 VS 4790k.
Might as well just say 1080ti is choppy running minecraft in 720p, but rx480 is smooth af running Witcher 3 on ultra on a 4k monitor.

I mean it could be user error but he'd have to be some new next level igit tbh...
system super bogged down vs old system or a unstable oc causing issues and he's too clueless to pick up on it.
but I'm sure its a fanboy thread.

explain how it would be user error
was fine for first two years, was not after that, reverted to stock settings and the issue was still apparent

maybe it was a defunct board, but my ud3p never gave up on me even after a cap leaked so *shrug*

it couldn't have possibly been chip degradation (undervolting, delidded & always kept cool) and the only thing to have changed in that time was a new graphics card (290 > 980ti > 1080ti > 2080) and an nvme ssd

if it were anything, it was a bios update for the nvme ssd, but i doubt that.

i mean i've always liked amd, and i loved my 4790k when i got it because of the immediate upgrade from the 8320, but random system hangs became more and more apparent over time
i seriously doubt it was user error, it's basically impossible to do that if you have any common sense.
system wasn't bogged down at any point, all i do is internet browse and game/stream occasionally, which a 4790k is more than capable of.

Your story reminds me of my friend who just switched from AMD to Intel. One of their big reasons was their AMD system would get random blue screens all the time. They tried reinstalling windows, getting all updates, etc. But it kept happening. They convinced themselves it was AMD to blame without any solid proof. System hangs or blue screens could be caused by many different things. Unless you do investigate troubleshooting and find the problem it is a bit foolish to blame the CPU manufacturer. While it's not impossible for a CPU to go bad, I think it is highly unlikely under normal circumstances.
