In a Game Trailers interview at E3, president of EA Games, Frank Gibeau all but confirmed that EA is planning to make Mirror’s Edge 2, adding that it will likely be powered by Battlefield 3′s Frostbite 2 engine.

“We haven’t killed Mirror’s Edge,” Gibeau told Game Trailers. “We’re actively looking at how to bring it back in the right way. We love that franchise. The DICE guys really created something I think special the first time around. You’ve got to have a big idea to be able to do the next one and that’s what we’re working on.”

fuck yes

We recently spoke with Id Software co-founder John Carmack about some of the technical benefits we’ll get from playing Rage on PC instead of consoles. Without the texture memory limits of the Xbox 360 and PS3, we can expect sharper textures, even at lower resolutions. At high resolutions, we can expect close to “three times the unique pixels the consoles can.”

It’s best to let technical wizard John Carmack explain this one. “One of the significant things that’s not really obvious is that because we break everything up into these texture pages, the consoles are limited because they don’t have enough memory and on the PS3 you can’t go larger than a 4096 squared texture,” he says.

“There’s a lot of scenes that really need more than that on there, so a lot of scenes sort of hit an upper limit on the consoles, where on the PC where we can use an 8k by 8k texture for that we can bring in higher fidelity. So even if you’re running the PC version at 720p resolution you’ll get crisper graphics on there.

“If you crank it all the way up to run at 1080p or higher then you can put of twice, probably closer to three times the unique pixels the consoles can.”

sounds like rage wont

While we haven’t heard or seen a blip of Respawn Entertainment’s first game, Electronic Arts was able to confirm today the game will be a sci-fi shooter. EA Games President Frank Gibeau also mentioned how the game will be shipped at a time when things aren’t too crowded from the label’s other shooters–oh, and when the game was ready, of course.

So, there ya have it: the first concrete information about Respawn Entertainment’s first game. Now we need to speculate on what kind of space shooter the game will be. Will it be militaristic like Killzone? Or, more of the Section 8 blend? Time will tell…

so obviously they wanted to make
a futuristic cod while activision said no mw3 or die
so they left and are makin their own shit
damn im good

Activision boss Bobby Kotick thinks Battlefield 3 looks pretty good for a PC title but seems to have some doubts that it will be able to run with the big boys on consoles.
Battlefield 3 has been getting a lot of very positive preview press as its release later this year grows ever closer and Electronic Arts has made no secret of the fact that it's aiming for a head-to-head showdown between the DICE-developed military shooter and Activision's upcoming Modern Warfare 3. But there's one guy out there who's determined to be a wet blanket and of course it's Activision CEO Bobby Kotick, who made a point of expressing reservations about the game's console cred.
"So far I've only seen Battlefield 3 on a PC, I haven't seen it on a console where the bulk of our business is," he told CNBC. "If it's just a PC title, as it looks like today, that's just a small audience to participate."
"Modern Warfare 3 is the result of an enormous amount of audience research and it is what our tens of millions of players are saying they'd like to see in their next action experience," he added.
Kotick knows perfectly well that Battlefield 3 is not just a PC title but you can't really blame him for throwing a little cold water on the BF3 love-in. As a respectful and respectable CEO of the biggest videogame company on the planet he can't just come out and say that MW3 is going to stomp BF3's guts out, but a gentle zing, a nudge toward doubt, a little spear behind the play? That's just life in the big leagues, kiddo
