Simple. That will cause people to realize that their crappy consoles aren't that powerful, and hopefully that causes people to move onto the Wii 2 or whatever, which would put upward pressure on developers to make games for the Wii 2 or whatever, and on Microsoft and Sony to put out something new.

So then the standard is set much higher to developer for/on.
