i only finished the tutorials, but i think i this game.

Can someone gib the best advice for noob? classes, do's / don't 's ... i'm sure these things have been gone over, but w/ 2431 pages... ya.

Know that you're going to die. A lot.
It wouldn't be a bad idea to play every character to level 20 just to get them all unlocked.
That alone will teach you a lot. If you don't plan on spending any money right away (or ever), it would be a good idea to go ahead and make some more accounts for muling purposes, or so that you can play more than one character at a time.
realmeye.com is a great resource. Once you've gotten a bit more experience with the game, you'll want to start trading and realmeye is very helpful when it comes to that.
There's also a wiki (http://www.realmeye.com/wiki/realm-of-the-mad-god) that is very helpful.

how do i get gold tho? only have 40 @ new char screen :/ also, should i bother picking up items that aren't my class, can you not sell to vendors then?

You can only purchase gold with real money.
And you earn fame (the symbol beside the gold symbol) when your characters die, which can be used towards feeding/fusing your pet(s), upgrading your pet yard (which allows you to fuse higher level pets), and occasionally purchasing things such as dyes (for changing the color of your character's clothing).
There is no way to sell your items to a vendor - everything is done through trades with other players.
Since you're just starting, I wouldn't worry to much about holding on to gear for your next character, but if you know what you'll be playing next (for example, Wizard unlocks Priest(?)) you could grab a few items to make it that much easier.

Lost my 6/8 WC Assassin to a Crusher Abomination in Mad Lab yesterday and wasn't too beat up over it because I'd been wanting to roll a Warrior for a long time (and fuse a pet).
Was farming pots for my new Warrior on my Knight just now and got Septavius'd. RIP dblade, pixie sword, acrop, colo, exa hp, valentine, candy ring, and more.
e: I was 2% accuracy away from Sniper and 30 quests away from whatever the 1,000 quests bonus is.
