I know how you feel mate. I always have a hard time deciding on which class to play. Melee is the most fun in my opinion. But if you are looking to try new things, playing something with a bit more range is usually easier, and a lot safer. What a lot of people do is use a higher ranged character and get experience with everything while potting up a secondary melee character. Up to you tho of course.
Edit - Even the extra range of a dagger makes a big difference. You mentioned soloing stuff in your other post. Have you ever considered trying rogue? The stealth is excellent for soloing stuff, even if you take your time and clear everything without rushing.
Decided on potting a Necromancer since I did so well with one unpotted. I think it'll be a faster pot farm, and then I can just work on getting every character to at least 5/8.

Wish I had more than one character slot.

e: And I just got the Necromancer to 3/8.

DEF, DEX, SPD. Sold my Bulwark for a life, vit, and def because all I needed was 6 def to max. Sold life for 5 def.

Now to max VIT, which shouldn't take too long.
