(I originally posted a slightly edited version of this in the "White Star and Legends mean nothing" topic, but then thought this might be of general interest, so am posting it here.)
First, I've learned a lot in reading people's comments on Fame and Legends. In researching how to re-balance Fame we've looked at how people have racked it up in the game, and I've read a bunch of forum topics on people's thoughts on this. So thanks for that.
We haven't given out too much detail on how and when Fame is changing because we're still working on it. But this change is coming soon -- it'll likely be the next big thing that comes out.
Here are a few things I can say:
You won't lose any Fame you already have accrued from past characters.
Stars won't be changing.
You will be able to use Fame (or Gold) to purchase a lot more things -- eventually, nearly everything.
We'll be changing some of the bonuses/achievements -- removing some that don't work, adding more over time.
The biggest change to achievements is that they will no longer be multiplier bonuses: they'll be a straight addition to the Fame your character is building up.
Fame for new and currently living characters will change. But since Fame isn't fully calculated until a character dies, this should be mostly transparent to you (though your total Fame shown in the UI for your living characters will likely change, and external sites built to track fame, while very cool, will have to change to stay up with the times).
You'll be able to see how close you're getting to earning various achievements.
We'll start up a new Legends board that contains only those with new Fame. There will be a link to the old board, but no characters will be added to that once this change is made.
There are a few other changes I'm not going to talk about yet... except to say that as the poem Ozymandias shows us, nothing lasts forever.
