The player bases are very different. I think ultimately D4 will just funnel more new players to D2R, just like D3 did.

Having lost confidence in Blizzards ability to make anything after D3 launch/early years, immortal, the bro culture HR stuff, and the D2Reskin launch/mishandling, I won't even look at their new games anymore but own D2R and have been obsessed with D2 for 20 years. I don't see that crowd going back to classic or on to D4 (which I doubt can inspire that kind of long term obsession). Maybe the gamers coming of age with D4 will still be playing it 20 years from now. They get much more ARPG content then we did then so it seem less likely but who knows.

D2r would be perfect if bots and this website didnt exist. And sure im guilty. I botted 15 years ago. I use this website now. But na d2r is just dead man. Its nostalgic. Thats why we love it. Theres no end game. Theres no immersive combat. PvP is clunky dull and dated. Boss fights are just high health mobs, no mechanics, no challenge. The ONLY challenging part to this game is the grind. Which for a couple bucks this website takes care of that for you. Then what? Or you spend 4 weeks MFing to make your character strong enough for P8 hell........ then what?

Name a fight in diablo thats engaging? Ubers? So easy for anyone that has a clue what they are doing. Diablo clone? Same thing. Most things die in 1 hit. Everything stands still. And if you DONT use this website, by the time you MF stuff this website and bots will have already killed the economy.

You'll be back for reset tho, I think that fresh start is best played on hardcore, seeing half naked geared toons get ripped is the creme of the crop, would be nice if there was a real D3 so we could retire D2LOD/D2R and move onto something similar but new, I don't see that happening tho, so we're stuck coming back every now and then and getting some D2 in, reset, rinse n repeat.

Not a chance, D2R is completely outdated and has no appeal to newer generations. D2R was a "new" and exciting prospect while D3 was still ongoing. I think Asmongold might bring some new people to try D2R when/if he decides to play but no shot any of them stay plus there's poe 2 around the corner.

It's really not looking good for good ol' D2. The best hope you have is chatgpt being implemented in the high bot population so at least you can feel like the game is still alive.
