Maybe it's time for a "seldom told tale." Something weird has happened to either my d2 game or the text file for ladder words. I really don't know. I don't know if it's a glitch or a hack. If it was just a glitch, I'd simply import a fort from another character using the tcp-ip game and two computers. Create a switch character. Use that character to create a tcp-ip game. Bring in an old character. Drop off his 'fort'. Bring in Boldheart. Drop off his compromised 'fort' and pick up the old working 'fort'. Report the exchange on the WT as a reconciliation of the glitch. Problem solved. But I don't know that it isn't a hack and won't happen again and again. I know just enough about computers to do a WT with some screen shots and some videos and that is about it. But shit happens.
I've played d2 off and on for a long time. I remember the old open battle.net games. People would give my barb incredible items far better than any item I could find. It got boring fast. Then I played in the closed battle.net prior to ladders. It's there that I met this oldtimer in softcore mode. He told me he was a Vietnam Vet and loved diablo 2. His idea of playing was to enter a game with nothing on at all. He had a pretty high level character--barb class. He said he shed all his items at the end of every game. And then he just picked things up as he went. Frankly, I could only do that in softcore mode and maybe p1

But it made me think, that is the ultimate minimalist approach to D2. No mules required. You get excited everytime you find something: plain, blue, yellow, green or gold colored. But it was also prior to expansion and runewords where you need to keep found items to build things like enigma. Might be an intriguing WT for a super gamer in hardcore. Beat hell with only the things you find. No reruns. No farming meph. No LKs. It would be crazy hard if not impossible. I think some have even tried it. Maybe a sorc could do it. Or an hdin.
No, I think I'm just happy not using plugY. There is a reasonable minimalism in not having a large storage facility. These days , it's funner for me to not be a d2 hoarder and just do the game with the stuff 'on the back' of a d2 character (regular stash and inventory.) For me, using plugY is like pushing a grocery cart around full of junk. Infinite junk. But that is just me. I've done enough muling for a lifetime and I'm tired of it. If people want to use plugY, that's cool by me. Lot of good players use it. But I'd hope that folks would let me do my walkthrough unimpeded. It's really all about having fun.
