Yes you can farm any lvl 85 area you like.
If you couldn't, then everybody would just sign up for everything so they would always have the freedom to choose.

"The best amount of magic find for any character is 300-450 magic find. If you go above 450, you will find more magic items then rare/uniques."

Seeing as that is wrong I don't know if that's a good tip.

There are mf break points for normal monsters and uniques. The formula is (250*MF)/(250+MF) and is rounded down.

It's another story for act bosses tho, but that's not what we are farming here

EDIT: To be successful in level 85 areas you want a solid map seed. That is a pretty short level 85 area map with a lot of boss/champions backs. In terms of mf you want as much as possible paralelled with killing speed. You also want to kill boss/champ packs only, not the other monsters. I would even skip minions if I could lower the amount of time a run takes

It's not wrong.
Have you seen the magic find chart?
As you can see, once it hits 400mf, the elevation if your chances of finding uniques noticeably decreases compared to when it increased rapidly.
And the amount of rares/magics found with 350-400 magic find will overwhelm the chances of uniques dropping.

that's not what that shart says at all. more rares doesn't mean less uniqs.

the statement that 450 mf will decrease total uniq items found is wrong!
