End game content isn't a currency sink.
A currency sink would be something like a vendor interaction - Link Zana - She eats or destroys two chaos orbs or w/e to add a mod.
The exchanging of currency for endgame portal keys - Like uber sets is the exchange of currency for another item -- rotating currency through players -- But as the player uses the keys it becomes an item sink.

A proper way to put it would be investing an exalt into a "portal key venture" in order to gain more desirable thus expensive and valuable gear -- But the portal key venture usually have a negative effect on your investment -- Thus it is undesirable content to tackle or in other words obsolete and un-used.
