For everyone interested, I've outlined the finer points of my plans which i will post publicly below:


GvG Ladder Tournament II:


Pre Tournament Objectives -
(To be held no later than Aug 1st)
(Ethereal destructable chaos allowed but no higher than 330% ed) - this rule I came up with talking with Ruca, to help provide balance and keep things fair for players who can't get a gchaos


1 - List each possible competitor and accumulate a list of those who wish to participate
>Oni/ Seep/ Riz/ Ruca/ zora/ Gengar/ Fox/ Sad/ Manipulate/ Deaf/ Whurl/ Cambria/ DBMod/ Eureka/ Barb/ Brawl? (see #6 below)/ ??? any ghost player I may be forgetting?

2 - Amend normal GvG ladder rules for tournament setting
>stricter penalties (instant ban) for drama or disrespectful behavior

3 - Figure out how to arrange matchups
>assign numbers to each competitor, possibly use a mediator in order to use website available for pairing numbers

4- Prizes for 1st 2nd 3rd?
>item/ fg prizes? a pot?

5 - Means of preventing sharing of items
>registering rare/crafted gear prior to starting tournament, possibly having mediator check items and bring together characters in game to confirm multiple copies of said items exist

6 - Allowing Rick to join?
>I know there is much controversy surrounding Rick's involvement in this ladder, so I propose that the top 5 most senior gvg members vote anonymously (via PM) possibly to mediator? on whether or not he should be allowed to compete: As far as I know, these individuals will be: Oni/Seep/Riz/Ruca/zora

7 - Designing official tournament listings
>Someone decent with picture/gif editing to make it more official looking (If not I'll attempt to whip something tacky up in Microsoft paint)


This is what I have so far, seeing as how the actual ladder is basically dead, the plan will be to ultimately replace the normal ladder format with series of tournaments to really add value towards becoming the champion.
We shall start keeping track of 1st/2nd/3rd place, as well as a tally of wins/losses.

So henceforth, this thread will be used to discuss ways to make this the best GvG tournament possible, and ofc make posts if you're in search of fun/practice GvG.

Is this going to be a double elimination tournament? I feel that is the most fair approach. Anyone can have a good/bad day and this helps even out all the odds, giving every competitor a fair chance for the crown and chance to fight each other.

Since brackets are entirely done by chance, I vote against a point system. To me, a win is a win. It should not matter whether you 5-0 someone or win 5-4. It is unfair to give a winner "more points" for defeating his opponent in a more swift manner, as not all competitors will be on the same dueling level.

that being said, if there's enough time, we could possibly do pools before the actual bracket to have more accurate seeding. to make it completely fair, everyone would make it out of pools. so if there were 4 people in a pool, 1st seed might play a 4th seed and a 2nd seed might play a 3rd seed first round.

just throwing this idea out there, but i've been going to super smash bros. melee/brawl tournaments for about 7 years now and this is how every tournament is ran and it works out. you have to do some initial seeding for pools based on prior results or whatever, but it will lead to an accurate, fair bracket

No idea how pools work.... The last tournament was done where everyone was given a number and the mod (Seep) would hit a randomizer to match people up against each other and make brackets like that.
