Hello all,
I have been working to get into the melee scene and recently decided to sign up for the UGML in an effort to engage in fun, good-mannered dueling on a nostalgic game that I've revisited many times through the years. During this iteration of JSP, which started around March for me, I have encountered several helpful individuals who have made my stay enjoyable. There have not been many who contributed to an overall negative experience, however among those that have, "Toughguy_TJ" is undoubtedly the worst offender. I have witnessed countless rude, unsolicited spam or general vulgarity on multiple user's posts, both paid and otherwise. This user has reminded me of my disdain for some parts of the JSP community.
This would be inconsequential if I could merely ignore/avoid him as I have been doing, (I have blocked him messaging me as well due to harrassment) however it was much to my dismay to discover that "Toughguy_TJ" holds a prominent role in the GM Melee community. It seems hypocritical to me that he would be stating platitudes regarding the requirements for good-mannered individuals in the melee community, when he himself embodies the exact opposite of what he is describing.
While I am not privy to the controversy surrounding SpamBam, one thing remains clear to me: I will not participate in a community where one of the prominent figureheads holds no qualms about blatantly disrespecting his peers and the JSP community as a whole. "Toughguy_TJ" has cost the melee community at least one new member today. I will be rescinding my application to the UGML.
I'm sure many will not read my post, and many of those who do won't care about my decision, but I hope that the community as a whole uses this as an opportunity to see that while the number of participants has certainly dwindled due to the age of the game, it is quite possible that more people who were eager to join decided against it after witnessing the actions of their would-be peers.
Good luck.
Lol this made me laugh, as if anyone gives a shit about any of this.
