Greetings LLD lurkers!

I'm going to dive in to LLD for the first time on a more serious level, and was hoping you guys could get me started in the right direction.

Which realm is most popular for 9-30s?
What are some typical cookie cutter LLD builds, as well as some oddball builds?

I've always been a fan of the oddball builds in HLD, so any viable out of the norm builds that fall under this would spark my interest.

When hunting for LLD items, do you prefer gambling or MFing, and is there a trick to finding LLD specific items?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated, let's dance the night away in stony field.

Did you check the “unified help topic”?

It has links to guides. A lot of them.

I can field most of your questions:

lvl 9-12 dueling (VLLD) - Most popular on euro nl right now. There is a tournament being hosted here: https://forums.d2jsp.org/topic.php?t=81834536&f=143
lvl 18 dueling - East used to be more popular for lvl 18 dueling pre 2011, now it's a toss up between east and euro nl. lvl 18 dueling is fairly ping friendly, so it doesnt really matter if you play on a foreign realm.
lvl 30 dueling - Definately east nl for the most action, although i would reccommend building a char now on ladder over the next month or so before ladder resets

Builds can be found here, although some of the guides are a bit out of date: https://forums.d2jsp.org/topic.php?t=74146802
If you like what you see, perhaps you can make another thread asking more build-specific questions and someone will help you out

I typically like to Mf norm act 3-5 for items lvl 18 and under (really depends on the mods im looking for. You need to do some math here) or I gamble/craft items myself (also requires a bit of math). Most people just bump trade threads though to fill their isos. To each their own

Not sure on your budget, but i know that several people are selling complete chars at the moment. This could be a good entry point for you if you want to start right away.

Hope this helps

Yeah I've been peeking through some, but many are very old and wasn't sure what today's rules would or would not allow. I'd be able to make an awesome fissure druid for MLD with my current items but it seems that 49 is completely dead?

There are a few around, but you will have a lot more fun making a lvl 9-12 on euro, an 18 on either realm, or a lvl 30 on east (although the learning curve is much steeper at lvl 30)

I appreciate the post man. Personally I'd find more enjoyment in mfing/gambling/crafting up my build. I'm leaning towards a fissure druid at the moment, but I'll do some more research in the guides section.

Does the lvl of the character you are MFing with effect the items dropped in anyway? Should I be MFing with a specifically leveled character or?

Lvl matters for gambling and crafting, not for mfing. Only the area level, or in normal, the monster level matter.

Chars can be tossed into tiers

Roughly it’s like

Commonly played good chars
Bvc
Bowa
FB sorc
Blizzard sorc
Hammerdin
Bone nec
LS trapper
Nado Druid (Id you can work a tele staff switch)

Everything else is not as good

This. So for example, if you are looking for a rare weapon that can spawn a specific affix/prefix (i.e. mod), you will have to determine whether the monsters that you are killing are high enough level to drop an item with that mod in the first place. As Frank pointed out, this is determined by the Area lvl.
