There’s some debate about bnet .07 for some reason but unless you were able to install before the release date and bnet for some reason let you online (wouldn’t happen) it was instantly patched to .08. .08 lasted for almost a year which at the time was a long time. And all the online stores were selling all the goodies at the time as they were being privately duped and bought from players to resell. There were many item shops even in the early days of d2. eBay used to be the bigger marketplace until they started removing the auctions at blizzards request.

It's true. When blizzard released the battle chests including LOD, the guidebook they came with showed a bunch of runewords that weren't even possible to craft. One was a spear class weapon with plus + bonespear skills designed for a necro. These runewords were laughably bad compared to rares and uniques already available in classic D2.

A lot of people assumed 1.07 was a thing because of the fact that these guidebooks were printed and released

makes sense when i think on it. 1.06 has legendary items, MAEK rings, and still had the good craft recipes iirc. then .08 was 10x more legendary. but you never have any mental reference for 1.07.

Some people claim that they've made 1.07 runewords. They likely made "ancients pledge" , which used the exact same runes/item base as the 1.08 version.

I've not seen any reputable proof of .07 runewords, crafts, etc. on bnet. The battlechests were packaged well in advance of the release and .08 came about right before release. I have my original disks and have played d2 and lod on patches 1.00 and 1.07 on single player, while interesting, they are really buggy.

I'm agreeing with you. My point was, since ancients pledge used the same runes in 1.07 and 1.08, people prob read the 1.07 guide book and crafted what they thought was a 1.07 runewords. If they tried a different recipe, it would have failed.

So from what era is this ring from?

1.08, 1.09 (especially), and 1.12 are my favorite patches. i like synnergies/respec from 1.12, cool items from .08 and .09, but .09 gameplay and dueling was the best imo. i'll take cows at max lvl over anything thats ever existed in the game, that shit was beyond fun.



1.04 to 1.06

that's the era called "prepatch". should really be called "prelod" as it used to be.

1.04 = first b.net patch

1.05 = minor improvement patch, packet sniffing on gambling being the most noteable change tbh

1.06 = the forgotten patch, not many changes.

1.07 = didnt exist on b.net

1.08 = LoD & major changes

1.09 was my favorite. .08 was just stupid for pvp. Valor and shako were way too powerful.
