Type R or WRX?

I am currently trying to plan for next year after the winter time to purchase a sports car. Right now I am contemplating between the WRX (base or Sport Tech) or Type R (both 2020) models. I live in Toronto where there is heavy snowfall during the winter. Whether I get the WRX or Type R, I will want to mod the car. Things I intend to get done as of now are (but not limited to):

Blow Off Valve
Stage 1 & 2
Louder Exaust
Dyno Tune

These are strictly performance mods, and I do intend to do aesthetics as well.

I am also considering:

Buying a used version of either vehicle to save money and use that money into mods

Please give me any opinions or advice you may have that will direct me / make my decision easier

Why not consider the golf R? My brother has a 2017 golf R and ive driven it multiple times and its always a blast. I live in montreal which I know exactly what kind of winter you have and nothing stops the R during heavy snow storms. Also the DSG is such a great transmission but you can always get the manual. Theres also plenty of mods you can do for the golf

Out of the 2 you mention Id go for the wrx though

Problem with the Golf R they are very expensive to make fast. You can get them into 11s with bolt ons but performance brands like HPA and APR charge way too much for the prices and they are one of the few brands that sell more than just bolt ons for the car.

Aesthetically speaking, these two catch my eye the most.

I've looked at Golf R, Ford Focus RS, and Lancer Evo
I'd throw Evo into it, but they don't make them anymore

BRZ is my all time fav, but Coup just doesn't suit my lifestyle.

I mean one is a fwd turbo and the other is awd turbo. They will drive completely different. The type r has been proven to be overrated compared to the hype that surrounded it. fastest stock time quarter mile was a 13.5 with 300hp. The cobalt ss did that with 260hp. Subies have too many problems for me to wanna touch. The honda will have the reliability but will lack the performance in the long run.
