I went ahead and did the Ranger method when cleaning out my fluid and went with the recommended cheap Prestone Dot 4 Synthetic. After that and the crazy amount of black crap was flushed out, I noticed very small black residual pieces floating around.
The next day, I come to look at the fluid to find it completely empty. (fml)
Checked the master cylinder and no signs of leakage or anything. (Factor out the cheap culprit)
And of course on to the painful culprit, I've come to believe I have a failing seal on my Slave cylinder which also has a possibility of the throwout bearing being in bad shape.
When there is fresh clean fluid in the system, the shifting is great (besides reverse when I have to use the forward gear to reverse method). Then the whole reservoir goes empty within a day which happened for the past week so it's something pretty bad but nothing that I can see on the outside. This is how I imagine there's a pool of fluid just sitting around in my bell housing and eventually my clutch might get affected.
Side note, I couldn't imagine lowering my car. My driveway is rocky and full of dips.
In the future though, I considered going with the TSP 228R cams and Comp 918 springs. (Haven't decided if I wanted to go NaK valves or Ti since GM decided not to give the NaK valves to the 01')
If that much fluid is leaking but you aren't seeing a drip it is going into your clutch/flywheel and getting flung around. Stop driving it and pull it man. I know it sucks but it has to happen.
You don't have to do anything to the valves unless you just want to throw money away. Please don't buy that cam. It's an ancient design on ancient lobes. There are cams that will make more power while being easier on valvetrain parts. 918 springs are OK but I'd go straight for a set of BTR dual springs.
Oh and make sure you get a GM slave cylinder! The parts store brand is crap!
