Just picked this up

Before the haters, its a 395 Optimizer block, aftermarket and considered the second best 6.5 motor you can get

Bought it because the price was right, half what a Duramax costs around here...Putting a 4" exhaust on it, better air filter, then some adjustments to the turbo and IP to push a little more power...Possibly Duramax water pump, fan, and clutch in the future

15,500 miles on the motor, installed by 2nd owner, trans rebuilt by 1st owner at some point...I'm only the 3rd owner

It is a dually, has a shell on the back with the whole back lift and clear man door, crew cab, runs great

4.10 rear gears, sucks at higher speeds so I'm gonna put big tires on it, better RPMs at cruise

Why not?

Price was right, it gets the job done, fuel economy is good, way cheaper than any diesel I could have gotten for the same miles, replacement parts are dirt cheap compared to a 7.3 or dmax, and I know my way around the chassis as it is ;-)

Buy a few spare PMD's and you'll be fine. Pretty reliable motor. Careful how much fuel you push through it. These old motors run some pretty high temps and drive pressures in their factory form as it is.

93 doesn't have a PMD, mechanical pump in the 1992/1993, no stupid vacuum pump or vacuum wastegate either

I ran 2,600rpm for 3 hours driving home (sucky part of 4.11 gears) and it never topped 180, just happily ran like a clock...I'm going to put taller tires on it which should give me about the same speed at a few hundred RPM less

I am going to put a 4" exhaust on it, which should help with EGTs which should equal out to lower operating temps anyways, not going to do it now but one of the mods I would like to do is replacing the water pump, and then replacing the fan clutch and cooling fan with the one off the Duramax, but I don't really want to get into that at the moment

For now, just towing relatively light trailers, it will get mostly highway miles with me... but I wanted something capable of hitting the passes without losing power (turbo) and something that would cruise and get better towing economy than my 1500 suburban

Learn something new every day. That's good then. Those PMD's get HOT lol. Wouldn't be surprised if someone makes a relocation kit for them now-a-days though. I've never heard issues water temp wise. Just EGT & drive pressure after adding in more fuel.

What charger did they put on these?
